Raise a toast to a new record?

WINE lovers are invited to attend a world record wine tasting event in Pontypool.

The John Capel Hanbury Wetherspoon pub, in Osborne Road, is joining a UK world record attempt as part of the pub's forthcoming 19-day wine festival.

The festival runs from Wednesday, May 21 until Sunday, June 8 and the pub is one of 680 Wetherspoon's to host the synchronised wise tasting attempt to create a new Guinness World Record.

The wine tasting will take place on May 21 at 6pm with customers offered a free glass of wine.

Pub manager Andrew Daniels said: "This is a great opportunity for people to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt.

"All they have to do is come to the pub and enjoy a glass of wine at the same time as other customers in Wetherspoon pubs across the UK.

"The current world record stands at 5,100 tasters and I am confident that it can be beaten, with my customers playing their part."
